FULLY INVOLVED FUEL TANKERS IN SOUTH ONONDAGA
Thu, Mar 18th, 2010 12:32:00 am Just after midnight the South Onondaga Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of Route 20 and Mclusky Road where a citizen noticed a large amount of smoke and fire in the area however was unable to see exactly what was burning. South Onondaga Car 1 and Car 3 arrived a short time later confirming a large outdoor fire involving fuel tankers in the middle of the Apple Orchard on Hitchings Road. Engine 94 headed down the narrow dirt road laying out 1000' of 4" supply line. The crew quickly stretched 300' of preconnected hose knocking down a large volume of fire while South Onondaga Engine 6 pumped Engine 94's supply line. Marcellus Engine 2 provided manpower while tankers from Amber, Lafayette, Navarino, Onondaga Nation and Otisco set up a continuous water supply for operating units. Engine 94 operated on scene for approximately 3 hours before returning to service.
